I’m a 2009 Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research
Welcome to Gauravonomics Blog! Subscribe to my feed now and you'll never miss a single post!
As I get ready to wrap up my stint as the Yahoo! Fellow at Georgetown University, I’m beginning to think about what I’ll be doing next year.
There’s some early good news: I’m one of the fourteen 2009 Fellows of the Society for New Communications Research.
I have known about the fellowship for a few weeks, but I was waiting for SNCR to officially announce it in a press release, before I shared it with you.
The Society for New Communications Research is a global think tank dedicated to the advanced study of the latest developments in new media and communications, and their effect on traditional media and business models, communications, culture and society. The Society’s Fellows include a leading group of futurists, scholars, business leaders, professional communicators, members of the media and technologists from around the globe – all collaborating together on research initiatives, educational offerings and the establishment of best practices.
SNCR fellows include social media stalwarts like Elisa Camahort, Dan Farber, Shel Israel, Shel Holtz, Joseph Jaffe, Katie Delahaye Paine and J. D. Lasica.
The SNCR 2009 Fellows consist of a fascinating group of new media thinkers and practitioners and I’m delighted to be one of them –
- Connie Bensen: Online community strategist for Techrigy.
- Andria Y. Carter: Online Editor of Trentonian
- Marcia L. Conner: Managing Director of Ageless Learner and Fast Company columnist
- Mark Chrisman: Senior Instructional Designer for T-Mobile USA.
- Vanessa DiMauro: CEO of Leader Networks.
- Laura Fitton: Founder of Pistachio Consulting.
- R. Craig Lefebvre: Adjunct Professor at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
- Geoff Livingston: CEO of Livingston Communications.
- Gaurav Mishra: Yahoo! Fellow at Georgetown University
- John Quinn: Public Affairs Marketing Director for ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington, DC
- Susanne Rockwell: Web Editor for University Communications at the University of California, Davis.
- Todd Van Hoosear: Senior Analyst for SocialSphere Strategies.
- Dr. Tamara L. Wandel: Assistant Professor at the University of Evansville.
- Charlotte Ziems: Vice President of Client Engagement at Tendo Communications.
Some of the fellows have also written about the announcement: Connie Bensen, R. Craig Lefebvre, Todd Van Hoosear.
My own research at SNCR will involve understanding the similarities and differences between internet and mobile use in India and China and identifying specific case studies of how these tools are being used in the two countries to transform media, business and society. In essence, It is a continuation of my work as the Yahoo! Fellow, with a tighter focus on India and China.
The SNCR fellowship is not a residential fellowship, so I’ll be doing my research along with whatever else I’m involved in (and I have absolutely no idea what that will be).
