My Five Favorite Desi Bloggers
Welcome back to Gauravonomics Blog! Subscribe to my feed now and you'll never miss a single post!
I read about four hundred blogs via feed, including about two hundred desi blogs, and, given that I have a sixty hour work-week, my feed-reader always has way too many unread posts.
I have tagged my feeds into various categories – Friends, Favorite Desi Personal, Favorite Desi Group, Gyan, Other Desi Personal, Other Desi Group, Blogging Tips, Technology, Social Networking and Masala – and always read the posts in the same order.
Sometimes, however, I only have time to read four or five blogs everyday. Here are the blogs I read then, these are my five favorite desi bloggers –
- Within/ Without by Neha Vishwanathan
To me, Neha is the undisputed queen bee of desi blogging. Her poems are some of the best I have seen on desi blogs and her fiction fragments always leave me wanting more. She’s perhaps the only one around who reads more desi blogs than I do, and it shows in her contributions on DesiPundit and GlobalVoices.
- India Uncut by Amit Varma
People don’t call him India’s best blogger for nothing. I’m always amazed by the range of Amit’s interests – cricket, crosswords, cows and quizzing to name a few – and his erudition shows in the unique style in which he thinks and writes about a wide variety of topics. He often tends to filter-blog, but I like him best when he writes his longer thought-pieces.
- The Compulsive Confessor by eM
Many people think that eM is the next big thing in desi chick lit, and I am totally rooting for her. Her writing is deliciously addictive and she is as interesting in real life as she’s on her blog. I have valiantly tried to get her to turn her feeds on to full, and failed, and it’s for her, and only for her, that I have made an exception to my “full feeds only” rule.
- Love and Haterade by The Barmaid
She calls herself Carrie Blogshaw, and writes about love like nobody does. Her posts always make me question my own assumptions about relationships and GOPIG and anti-game game are now part of my vocabulary. She’s amusing even in her I’m-so-over-men rants, but I like her best when she is in the mood for love, not haterade.
- On the Ganga Mail by Bishwanath Ghosh
He writes about women, then comment-flirts with them on his blog – no wonder I love his blog so much! I love the easy assurance of his writing and feel like linking to each one of his posts, also because it always feels as if we are thinking about the same things.
Now, I know that memes are not the in-thing these days, and these five never do memes anyway, but I’m an self-acknowledged meme-addict, so I’ll try nevertheless.
Neha, Amit, The Barmaid, eM and Bishwanath – if my shameless flattery made you smile, make your own favorite desi bloggers smile by writing about why you like them so much. Please.
