Daniels at Daily Blog Tips is doing a Group Writing Project on Blogging Goals for 2008 and more than 130 bloggers have participated so far.

While most bloggers participating in the project have set themselves goals on as many as ten metrics related to blog redesign, post frequency, promotion techniques, comments, traffic, link-backs and revenue, I have decided to focus on three simple goals — write 100 posts with original content, reach 1000 subscribers, and enter Technorati top 1000.

Goals only work if they are linked to a long-term objective and blogging goals are no different.

Blogging Chain of Being

I decided some time back that I’m not interested in using my blog to earn money. Instead, my objective is to use my blog to establish myself as an authority in the marketing, strategy and social media niche. In fact, as I have built a library of quality original content on my blog over the last few months, I have even started putting my blog URL on my resume.

My three blogging goals for 2008 are linked directly to my objective of using my blog to establish myself as an authority in my niche.

- Write 100 Posts With Original Content

My one big blogging goal for 2008 is to consistently write two posts with unique and original content every week. The type of posts I’ll focus on in 2008 will include — audio and video podcasts, how-to guides, case studies, round-ups of discussions/ memes in the niche and even an e-book or two. I have already stopped writing posts that only contain links to other blogs; in 2008 I’ll try to set an even higher standard for what is original content.

- Reach 1000 Subscribers

My second blogging goal for 2008 is to increase the number of subscribers on my blog from 250 to at least 1000. I’ll experiment with various ways of providing differential value to my subscribers, including giving them access to my e-book on an exclusive basis. By the way, if you haven’t subscribed to my blog yet, why don’t you subscribe now?

- Enter Technorati top 1000

My third blogging goal for 2008 is to increase my Technorati authority from 200 to 500 and enter the Technorati top 1000. This, in my opinion, is the easiest of the three goals, as getting 100+ new link-backs through a linkbait is not very difficult.

If you haven’t set your blogging goals for 2008 yet, the following three tips might be useful to start you off —

- First, identify the overall objective of your blog.

- Second, identify no more than three blogging goals that link directly to your blog’s objective.

- Third, rank the three blogging goals in the decreasing order of priority so that you know what to focus on.

So, what are your big three blogging goals for 2008?

Update: February 13, 2008

It has been almost six weeks since I wrote about my three blogging for 2008 and I haven’t made much progress on any of them. I have written a few good posts, and I get a few linkbacks and feed subscribers every week, but I haven’t really showed up on my own blog regularly enough to build a community around it. Two great posts a week, then, is what I’ll be focusing on in the coming weeks, and the linkbacks and feed subscribers will follow.

Here’s a quick wake up call to the 78 bloggers who participated in the blogging goals for 2008 project — how much progress have you made on your blogging goals?
