Cyrus Tanati in New York Times narrates the strange story of Joshua Persky (via Mahalo) –
Joshua Persky, the out-of-work banker who grabbed headlines this summer by standing on New York’s Park Avenue, handing out résumés to passers-by and wearing a sandwich board that said, “Experienced M.I.T. Grad for Hire,” has finally landed a job.
The weeklong effort standing in midtown Manhattan in a smart suit amid the blazing heat did get him lots of attention (and) Mr. Persky was interviewed by many major news outlets.
To make his 15 minutes of fame last a bit longer, he threw in a dash of new media. “The publicity encouraged me to start my blog, www.oracleofny.com, to keep in touch with the many hundreds of people who contacted me from around the world — and to document my experience, and advance my career,” Mr. Persky said.
A recruiter showed a director at Weiser the blog. “He loved it,” Mr. Persky said. “He called me in for an interview, and I was subsequently hired.”
Pull a desperate stunt, get prime time media coverage, write a blog about it. Get noticed, get a job.
