Twitter Circle of Life: Marriage, Childbirth and Divorce

Welcome back to Gauravonomics Blog! Subscribe to my feed now and you'll never miss a single post!

First, we read about a Twitter marriage (via Mashable and Wired) –

@maxkiesler: To @emilychang – After fifteen years of blissful happiness I would like to ask for your hand in marriage?

@emilychang: @maxkiesler – yes, i do!

– then found out that it wasn’t the first one (via Wired) —

@garazi: @stefsull – ok. for the rest of the twitter-universe (and this is a first, folks) – WILL YOU MARRY ME?

@stefsull: @garazi – OMG – Ummmmm… I guess in front of the whole twitter-verse I’ll say–I’d be happy to spend the rest of my geek life with you

We had earlier read about the childbirth lifestreaming antics of Jesse Stay (@jessestay) and Taul Paul @taulpaul on Twitter (via Salon).

Now, there’s news of the first Twitter divorce (via Nonsense News) –

Marlene Derek is visibly shocked. She sips her Starbucks while half-heartedly checking her blackberry. Derek was happily married for two years when her husband, Michael Derek dropped the bombshell that he wanted a divorce.

MSNBC: Bury Me With My Cell Phone

Diane Mace in MSNBC –

Anecdotal evidence suggests being buried with a favorite tech device is on the upswing.

But it’s the cell phone, in particular, that seems to be the burial gadget of choice.

While statistics on cell phone burials don’t exist, funeral professionals agree it’s a fairly common occurrence — at least among the tech-savvy and the young — and some believe we’re only seeing the tip of the wired-to-the-end trend.

It seems that, soon, mobile phones will not only be ubiquitous in most parts of the world, but also in the afterworld.

Too Good to be True

After a year when less was more, because that’s all there was, I almost have a problem of plenty (here, here and here).

And, almost to remind me of the hold she still has on me, she entered my dreams early in the morning:

We sit together on my parents’ bed –

You, my mother and I –

At their house at Patna

And watch ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ on TV.

Their white Pomeranian bitch sits in your lap

And licks your hand. Dream four.

Also, apropos of nothing, my blog has been on the Wordpress Most Popular Blogs list for the last few days, and climbing.

I understand, of course, that both these situations are too good to be true, that they are tests of some sort, tests of my sanity, that I’ll open my eyes tomorrow morning and realise that it didn’t really happen.
