The 20:20 Social team is working on a report on social media analytics tools and I will be eagerly looking forward to the reviews.

Here are ten things I look for in a social media analytics tool –

1. Flexibility in keyword setup.
2. Width and depth of crawler, in terms of types of content, languages and geographies.
3. Auto-filtering of spam and duplicate posts.
4. Auto-tagging and auto-clustering based on sentiment and location tags.
5. Ability to manually delete irrelevant posts.
6. Ability to manually change tags.
7. Ability to assign roles, respond, create profiles and track conversation over time.
8. Flexibility in customizing dashboard.
9. Ability to export tagged data as RSS feed or CSV file.
10. Ability to connect with other APIs like CRM tools, Google Analytics and Google AdWords.

What do you look for in a social media analytics tool?

Nathan Gilliat, by the way, has a great report on social media analytics tools.
